ATM – Any Time Mishap

How often do you check your bank balances? Do you monitor your accounts online or wait for the statement to arrive in the mail?

Internet banking and credit card are growing in India. People have become more technically sound. At the same pace the frauds in this area are also have increased. Preventing such frauds requires a coordinated and cooperative action from the bank, customers and the law. The Cyber Law of India, the Information Technology Act, 2000 (IT Act, 2000), is also not active on this aspect. Thus, Internet banking frauds and credit card frauds are growing in India. The ATM frauds not only cause financial loss to banks but they also weaken customer’s confidence in the use of ATMs.

Do you have the habit of throwing the receipt in the bin in the ATM?
If so I’m sorry to say, you are in danger.

In Singapore it is recently found that a person was busy picking up the receipts from the bin. No, he was not the sweeper. He was an IT expert who could crack the account of any person with the account number written on the receipt. You will be unaware of the fact that your money is flowing out until you are in touch with your account and transactions. The bank will not be able to trace where these people had drawn the money & how they do it, don't ask me, even the bank can't answer it. They can only advise you to report the case to the police for investigation. So DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR RECEIPTS.

It’s important to follow a few simple steps to protect yourself. What’s more important is that you could be at risk even if your ATM card is never actually physically stolen, as technical nerds can use skimming devices and keyboard to steal your card information digitally when you are busy withdrawing cash. There are some easy steps to be kept in mind:

–If the ATM is acting strange, don’t use it. A slow-moving ATM is the one which has been tampered with, experts say. Hedge your bets and use another machine.
–Beware of ATMs with stickers saying that you can now swipe your card into the machine, for instance, when you know that the machine was an insert model in the past. ATM vendors will mostly replace ATMs and instructions would probably not be changed with a just a label-quality sticker.
–Do shield your hand when you enter in your PIN. Sometimes tiny clandestine cameras (some as small as a pinhead) are installed near machines. Don’t give them any chance to pick up your digits.
–Check your bank balance regularly. It’s the quickest and easiest way to catch ATM fraud. The sooner you suspect the sooner you should report to the bank.
–The rules governing ATM fraud don’t protect consumers as much as those covering credit-card fraud do.
–Avoid ATMs in isolated locations. You might want to think twice before using a stand-alone ATM in a mall or convenience store. The machine may not be as secure as one within a bank branch.

The mechanisms like Designated time, Microchip technology, Biometric tokens, Enhanced security, ATM Monitoring, Customised softwares, Customer motivation, Alerts, etc can be used to minimise and prevent ATM frauds in India. The banks must spread public awareness in this regard among the public so that these frauds can be prevented says Mr. Praveen Dalal, the Leading Techno-Legal ICT, Cyber Law, Cyber Security and Cyber Forensics Specialist of India.

The hackers tend to improve on their methods and strategies day by day. ATM hackers are very smart and intelligent and you may not even see them coming except you have some tips to how they operate. Rouges have tips on how to install fraudulent card-reading devices, with which they can read any card inset in a 'tampered-with' ATM.

“Prevention is better than cure” – It is better to take preventive measure and stop the mishap than to wake up at the final stage.

SENSE THE PRESENCE

Have you ever missed your keys? Your wallet? Or forgotten an important bag back?
After a frantic search you would feel if only you could call them.

Hello car key where are you ?
Beep beep, I’m under the bed. Said the key.
Here you go, you are not wrong in that thought. You have paved way for an innovation and someone has understood the need and served the best.

Nokia reveals the sensational sensor which enables you to keep track of anything and everything in your reach. This device does not require GPS or GPRS or WI-FI. The sensor includes its own battery which has enough power to last 18 months continuously without the next recharge. A little thumb size locator which can be tagged to your key or wallet which enables you to track it within 100 m. With the application on the phone, it will navigate you to the object. The application will show you how far you are from it.

The system works the other way around too. When you get separated from the object, an alarm will alert you. You can turn off the application when you are far away from the object or when you are away from the object the handset disables it and re-enables it when it re-enters close to you. It depends on the settings you choose. This tiny gadget can be tagged to any sort of item and the application will support up to 100 items. Unfortunately the release date is not sure. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for this marvellous creation.

FUEL DUPERY

You may be thinking what dupery can be done in fuelling?
Everything is electronic which involves less labour and everything happens at a considerable speed, saves time in this busy schedule. At this moment we take for granted certain happenings in the petrol bunk. There are certain incidents -

1. We tend to speak on the phone while waiting in the queue, often keep the person on hold and fill fuel. Our attention is on the call, paying money and moving so the next person in the queue proceeds forward. At this time we have not noted the meter readings and are unaware of the quantity of fuel filled. The attendant is sharp and clever that he fills less and resets to zero before the next person comes.

2. We say the attendant to fill for Rs.200; he casually fills for Rs.50 and stays cool. When we ask for it, he says he heard it as Rs.50. Then as demanded by us he fills still Rs.150. So here Rs.50 first and Rs.150 now gives you your desired fuel of Rs.200. but we fail to notice that he had continued from Rs.50 to Rs.150 and has duped us for Rs.50. We can’t ask, as there is no proof.

3. There is a system in the filling station; if only the pump piston is set to the holder it sets to zero. Or else there is a way to just show a zero and continue for the previous value.

4. If you are distracted and are not paying attention to the meter, the attendant will stop filling well before the amount is reached, and will quickly reset it to zero and pretend that his task is done. He will make a face at you to pay up and get moving as the crowd is waiting for their chance.

5. When the attendant starts filling fuel, his friend comes up and starts behaving in a friendly way. You will most certainly get cornered if you try to be responding to his talks. By the time he is done, you will turn around and find that the attendant is standing still and the meter is reading the full amount you had asked for. You leave the place satisfied. What the person would have actually done is to stop filling fuel long before what you wanted, then immediately resetting the meter and typing your desired figure manually. You would have been deceived by the talks and not paid attention to the meter.

6. In all bunks, the amount is typed manually. Generally they got to type 1500 for filling Rs.150 worth fuel. When you need to fill fuel for Rs.1500, they enter 1500 in your presence and fill the fuel. Sending you to get the bill and deceiving you by their actions and questions.

7. Customers coming in car should be very careful while filling fuel. The level of dupery is more possible and easy, as the tank is behind and a person can’t keep an eye on both the meter and the tank. The attendant could be filling the fuel in another container below. You might keep an eye on the meter.

8. When fuel is getting filled from lorry to the tanks, the air pressure is high. This makes the digital meter to show varied numbers. So, when we fill fuel the meter reading and the fuel actually filled differs.

9. Insist on filling fuel by the electronic pump which would give you the option of entering the amount of fuel to be filled. If not, the attendant will fill 0.95 litres and claim for it as 1litre.

10. Look for 8’s on the meter, instead of 0’s. When the meter is reset, all digits first display 8’s and then the regular reading starts.

There is no use of complaining to the cops or write a letter to the company or write an article in the paper or talking about consumer rights. It’s our money and we should be careful about it. It’s our right and none can exploit it from us.

-> If you are in a car, get down and check.
-> Try to fill fuel in the morning time before 8:00 AM, so you get more quantity than in the hot sun.
-> Try to go to same petrol bunk (once you start believing as genuine pump) at maximum possible to have good relationship.
-> If you have a cell phone, don't use it in the bunk.
-> Pay money after filling fuel in your vehicle.
-> Render exact change if the money has to be paid at the beginning.
-> Credit card users ensure the amount beforehand.
-> Keep constant check on the meter.
-> Fill fuel for round off amounts such as Rs.100, Rs.200etc. which would enable you to render the exact change.
-> Don’t bother to any distractions by the other staff persons.
-> Look in the meter for 8’s.
-> Don’t hesitate to stop and question if you are having doubt.
-> Spread awareness and be equipped instead of complaining.

Need of HouR

There are numerous questions before one could set into tune.

How many employees? Policies? Employee files? Pay rolls? Recruiting? Benefits?

It is no secret that success in business relies upon excellence in execution. While corporate leaders have historically looked to other functions, such as product development, marketing and sales, to drive corporate success, today more and more eyes are looking to HUMAN RESOURCE for help.
Marketers have traditionally used "the 4 P's" (product, price, position and promotion) to set the products of their firm apart from those of the competitors in the market place. However, in the new economy, product features, pricing and positioning become almost irrelevant as competitors can now mimic and upstage your efforts in very short periods of time. The skills of HR can’t be tapped nor imitated.
Hr personnel are the ones who grove the functioning and execution of all the essentials of the organization. In today’s scenario the need of an effective human resource department is crucial. Greater involvement of the HR in the organization would result in development as a whole.
Planning is not as easy as one might think because it requires a concerted effort to come out with a programme that would ease your work. Commencing is complicated, but once you start and finish it you have a smile because everything moves smoothly.
HR Planning involves gathering of information, making objectives, and making decisions to enable the organization achieve its objectives. Surprisingly, this aspect of HR is one of the most neglected in the HR field. When HR Planning is applied properly in the field of HR Management, it would assist to address the above questions.
Human Resources Practitioners who prepare the HR Planning programme would assist the Organization to manage its staff strategically. The programme assist to direct the actions of HR department. The programme does not assist the Organization only, but it will also facilitate the career planning of the employees and assist them to achieve the objectives as well. This augment motivation and the Organization would become a good place to work. HR Planning forms an important part of Management information system.
Poor HR Planning and lack of it in the Organization may result in huge costs and financial looses. It may result in staff posts taking long to be filled. This augment costs and hampers effective work performance because employees are requested to work unnecessary overtime and may not put more effort due to fatigue. If given more work this may stretch them beyond their limit and may cause unnecessary disruptions to the production of the Organization. Employees are put on a disadvantage because their live programmes are disrupted and they are not given the chance to plan for their career development.
The most important reason why HR Planning should be managed and implemented is the costs involved. Because costs forms an important part of the Organizations budget, workforce planning enable the Organization to provide HR provision costs. When there is staff shortage, the organization should not just appoint discriminately, because of the costs implications of the other options, such as training and transferring of staff, have to be considered.
Here we look at career Planning and HR plans. People are the greatest assets in any Organization. The Organization is at liberty to develop its staff at full pace in the way ideally suited to their individual capacities. The main reason is that the Organization’s objectives should be aligned as near as possible, or matched, in order to give optimum scope for the developing potential of its employees.
HR needs to be more strategic but also will have to demonstrate its contribution to the business both in cost and value added. The most significant change will be in HR’s specialism to provide consultancy to line management and an increasing input to broad-level discussions and business strategies.
HR has to play a vital role when the economy is in a down turn. It has to emphasize on the talented and skilled labour and layoff the nonperforming and weak labour force.

Certain criteria where the HR and the company should focus in times of downturn-
- Talk to people running operations
- Take a look at performance management system
- Feel the deadwood
- Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable
- Let the employees be aware of what you know and want
- Spotlight the top talent

We know that corporate branding initiatives are created in a vacuum, and not always based upon reality, or the ability of our firm to live up to the image created. Branding initiatives should always have the customer as their primary focus, and focus on their needs and wants. In some cases, the customer is internal, in other cases external. Branding can be used to accomplish a variety of challenges, but success depends upon follow through, and that depends upon the quality of your workforce and their ability to deliver. So the need of hour is indeed Human Resource. An efficacious organization needs effectual HR personnel. The top level management in the organization should join forces with the HR department and consecrate towards the upliftment of the ogranization.

BE INDIAN BUY INDIAN

RE SESSION OR RECESSION

To have a refine session in our economy of the country or to get into the soup of economic crisis and global melt down is in our hands. We as leaders of tomorrow have to take necessary steps regarding the same. This issue has affected many parts of the world. We have been affected to an extent of IT sector, where in we are still landing safe than the other countries.

The American economy is going down and the dollar rate is going up.
Five months before $1 = Rs.40
Now $1 = Rs.50
By this the Indian economy is getting affected. Our country is also experiencing the heat of the economic crunch. Many industries are closing down, we are in critical situation. We have to go in the right way.
More than 30000 crore rupees of foreign exchange are being siphon out of the country.
A cold drink costs only 80paise, but we pay Rs.9 , the major profits out of these are sent to abroad.
Why are we consuming products which are not Indian? Why aren’t we supporting our economy rather than the foreign economy?
If this continues then we are sure of facing more problems in the near future. We will be paying more for every product we use and won’t be able to develop or improve the Indian economy.

WHERE DO WE ADDRESS?

The black day in our country, has made every individual to pause and turn back. Everyone just wondered the reason behind it. Inspite of the development in technology we still lag behind in making efficient use of the resources. After a number of suspicions still we were not able to restrict their entry into our country, which created havoc.

There were number of indications and suspects, but no necessary steps were taken -

No:1 India was previously warned about the terrorist attack, We still dint react or take any preventive measures. We laid back until we were laid.
No:2 Mr.Ratan Tata was informed about the attack and he never informed the official security service for protection. He strengthened the security in the front gate where in the terrorists entered from the kitchen gate.
No:3 One ship was suspected in the sea around 1000kms from the shore. Port guards contacted it and the ship waved a white flag (Any Indian ship is not allowed to show white flag). When the port guards approached the ship for checking, one was shot dead on the spot and the other was tied and shot at the borders of Mumbai. When the port guards did not return after investigation and the other ship had sailed- what were the others doing? When two persons dint return why dint the others try to know what happened to them?
No: 4 Sources say that they had filled fuel at the Cochin port for more than 4 times the rate and left as early as possible. The ship travelled more than 1000kms in the Indian cost line. What were we doing?
No: 5 The ship carried many life boats. Normally there is a limit for it, but the number of life boats was an area of suspect. The ship did not reach the shores. They stopped it in between and transported themselves in the life boats. Were the port authorities sleeping? What were the officials in the light house doing.
No:6 When they reached the shore’s. Some fishermen saw these fellows and suspected them to be a sign of danger. They also saw guns carried in jute bags. They wrote a letter in hindi and passed on the information, but our officials dint bother much.
No: 7 The terrorists bought grocery and 70kgs meat worth 50,000. This was a very abnormal trade that had taken place. If all people were informed about the suspect, then surely would have been of source of information.
No:8 Only 25% of the weapons were bought this time, The terrorists had already stored the other weapons in the hotel premises. Did the metal detectors work? Does the hotel have any CCTV?

It is like a situation of free entry and free exit. 40 gun men just come and belt down everyone to death and the whole nation is just looking with no words to express the pain and agony. What are we up to? Why are we not able to serve the society? Why is this lack in security? Why do we get up only in time of need and can’t be aggressive and cautious always?

In spite of all this mess happening, our politicians are no less.
One is pointing out that the terrorists are British; where in the person who was caught agreed that they were 29 Pakistanis and 11 Bangladeshis. What’s the need to trigger enmity with the British now?

Another official says that only 10 terrorists came and not 40? Is it going to matter by any way?

Yet another politician comments that this is not a big issue to be dealt with, this is a regular happening in a country.
Officials points out to Raj Thackeray and says there were no Marathi people in their squad of well skilled NSG’s and they were the people who saved Mumbai from more destruction.

250 crore per year is spent on the security of a bunch of fools (politicians). People employed for this are the NSG and SPG commandos. Is this really needed? If they love the country very much and are doing well to the people, who is going to kill them? If only they are true leaders, shouldn’t they sacrifice their lives for our country.

A person wins gold medal in Olympics he is given 3 crore and loads of advertisements and fame.
The award and reward given to brave and strong hearted soldiers who fought for the country sacrificing his life- just five lakhs
Is this fair by any chance? Is the value of life only so much? In spite of less recognition there are millions of people in the security department and are ready to sacrifice their lives for anything and everything.

Where are we heading to? Why are we the losers in the lethargy of the politicians? Whom do we address our problems to? Do we have a way out?
